The remaining 30% of the Writing Skills Component score is determined by the essay. Students have only 25-minutes to compose a 44-line essay on a very general topic using examples from literature, social studies, current events, and/or personal experiences or observations.
Critical Reading This section is similar to what was once referred to as the verbal portion of the test. Vocabulary will be de-emphasized with an end to basic analogies. Vocabulary is still important for reading comprehension questions. There are comprehension questions on shorter passages, or pairs of short passages, aside from the traditional longer passages.
Math Quantitative comparisons counting for 25% of the math score are gone. There are a handful of higher-level Algebra II questions. Concepts such as exponential growth are introduced and there is more of an emphasis on graphs and interpreting visual data.
Experimental Writers of the SAT have developed this section in order to learn statistical information. It does not count toward your final score. The catch is you won't be able to tell it apart from the other sections as it appears to be a normal Critical Reading or Math section. This means that you must take every section seriously.
